Our Beliefs

Our
Beliefs

Jesus is central to everything we do and believe. We sing, pray, and preach in His powerful Name. Our past, present, and future is centered on Jesus Christ. Our purpose on this earth is to bring glory to His Name.

Colossians 1:16-17 says (when speaking of Jesus), “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

About God

We believe in the absolute oneness of God. Greater Works Church is deeply rooted in the Biblical tradition that there is only one God, and that God is one. Because we are a body of believers committed to the doctrine of Biblical inerrancy and infallibility, we stand firmly planted upon the Scripture’s statements about the nature and sovereignty of God. From Deuteronomy 6:4 to Revelation 22:13 God’s self-disclosure to humanity is neither vailed nor concealed: “I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no savior” (Isaiah 43:11).

About Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature (Colossians 1:15). In Christ Jesus all the fullness of God dwells and it is only through Him that we might obtain eternal salvation (Colossians 2:9). We believe that the God of all creation was manifested in the flesh (1st Timothy 3:16) and that His identity as the LORD of the Old Testament cannot be separated from His identity as the Christ of the New Testament

About the Holy Spirit

God is a Spirit (John 4:24). Because God is omnipresent (all places), omniscient (all knowing), and omnipotent (all powerful) we believe that He serves as our Creator in the Old Testament, our Redeemer in Christ, and our Resurrection in the Holy Spirit as One. God is undivided and therefore His identity as the Holy Spirit cannot be divorced from His identity as Creator or Redeemer. According to (Romans 8:9) whether we call Him the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, or Christ Himself in us, they are all One and the same—the Holy Spirit is God above us all, through us all, and in us all as believers.

About Salvation

Humanity is created in the image of God and designed to have fellowship with their Creator. We have also been given the gift of making the free-will decision of whether or not we want to have that fellowship with God. After the first sin committed by the first man and woman in the Garden of Eden (Adam and Eve), mankind experienced a spiritual fall from grace caused by their decision to separate themselves from the Creator. In the greatest act of love ever committed, God chose to make Himself in the likeness of mankind in order to restore fellowship between Creator and Creation. Christ’s death on the cross served as atonement for all of humanity’s countless sins and granted us access to the presence of God once again. Because He took our place, we can now have fellowship with Him once again.
